Treatment of bronchial secretion disorders, particularly during acute bronchial impairments: acute bronchitis and acute episode of chronic bronchopneumopathies.
Capsules and Syrup: Active peptic ulceration.
Pediatric syrup and Drops: None.
Like all medicines Carbocisteine can have side-effects, although these are rare and usually mild. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any of the following:
Headache, nausea, stomach upset, gastrointestinal bleeding or diarrhea may occur.
Allergic reactions including occasional skin rash, angioedema.
Dosage and Administration:
The initial daily dosage of carbocisteine is 2250 mg in divided doses, reducing to 1500 mg daily in divided doses when a satisfactory response is obtained these:
Two capsules three times a day reducing to one capsule four times a day,
For normal syrup (250mg / 5ml), 15ml three times a day reducing to 10ml three times a day.
Children 5 - 12 years: 5 ml of the Syrup (250/5ml) three times daily.
Children 2 - 5 years: 2.5 - 5 ml of the Pediatric Syrup (125/5ml) four times daily.
Oral Drops: The normal daily dosage is 20mg/kg bodyweight in divided doses
